Huda Shaikh

Chair

Born and raised in Palo Alto, CA, Huda serves as the current chair of SquareOne.  After graduating from the University of California at Irvine, with a degree in Political Science and International Studies, she went on to study Apparel Product Development at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco.  As an aspiring entrepreneur, Huda enjoys spending her time with her family and giving back to her community.  Inspired by the words of Khalil Gibran, ”You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.”  Huda hopes that the vision of SquareOne will contribute in defining a new generation of women, one that is creative, capable, and embracing of what they have to offer to the world.

Asha Abdi

Vice Chair

Born in Mogadishu, Somalia and raised in the Silicon Valley, Asha is a student at California State University East Bay studying Sociology with an emphasis on Social Change. Vice Chair and Co-founder of Square One, Asha finds satisfaction in volunteering her time to different organizations and causes that range from Somali community events and programs, masjid lectures and conferences and raising awareness and funds for humanitarian causes such as the famine in her home country.  She is a passionate activist, and an optimist till it hurts, European chocolate lover and an advocate for giving young Muslim women the opportunities and resources for being catalyst in their family, community and careers.

Jana Hamdy Abdelgawad

Communications Director

Jana is a Policy Events Manager at the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, where she has worked for the last five years.   An Egyptian-American, she grew up in the Santa Clara Muslim community and has been active and involved for many years.  She has volunteered in many areas, including the Dawa Outreach Committee, the Funeral Committee, the Women’s Committee, and with Granada Islamic School.   Her interests extend to the greater community, including efforts to feed the homeless and programs with the Red cross and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Membership Director

Shereen graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Political Science, focusing on Public Policy and International Relations, with a minor in Global Poverty & Responsibility. Her non profit experience ranges from relief work in the international health care world to policy services at the Office of the Mayor: City of San Francisco. Shereen currently resides in Hayward, California.
